Earth Hour 2013 - Eco Awareness Event

On Friday afternoon of 22nd March, while many were on their way home after school, one can observe a group of people gathering around Puan Lee at the gazebo of the Science Garden. The 'Earth Hour Awareness' event was organized by the Garden Committee together with School Councillors.

The following took place :

1. Labelling plant species (only students who registered before deadline get to participate)
2. Knowing the 5 Senses Garden & Wild Biodiversity site

To all the enthusiastic students who turned up for this event and participated in the various mini talks and activities on that warm sunny afternoon, bravo to you for your initiative. You are indeed demonstrating the fact that learning also takes place outside the classroom.

Well done Pn Lee for organizing this event. Thanks to all the teachers and parents who came and helped out.

Overall they did 4 races - clothes changing race, tunnel race, running and individual race.  Children involved were all from nursery and reception years.

Compost Bin at Science Garden

Today, a simple compost bin was 'constructed' for the school cafeteria's kitchen wastes. Mesh is used to allow better aeration as well as visibility for the children to observe the decomposition layers.

Take your child for a stroll along the Science Garden to explore where the compost bin is.  While you are out there, have a look at the solar panel and figure out what is it used for.

What about joining the 'Earth Hour Awareness' event on 22nd March (Friday) at 2:40pm, taking place at the Science Garden? More info at http://www.tenby.edu.my/circular/sep/2013/Newsletter165.pdf

TIS Primary : Name card template for drive-through pick-up

Calling TIS primary's parents to work together in improving the traffic flow at the primary drive-through drop-off/pick-up point.

Drive-through pick-up
Upon nearing the round-about, start placing the name card with student's name and class, visible to the teachers on duty at pick-up point. Name card can be placed over the window or dashboard.

This way, the teachers would have better chance of getting your child/ren ready by the time your car arrives the pick-up point, hence improving the overall traffic flow. Thank you for your cooperation and thoughtfulness in ensuring every child can be picked up the soonest possible.

KS1 parents would have gotten your child's name card from the teacher.

Book Week 2013 - Year 5

In conjunction with Book Week this year, teachers, assistants and pupils alike were busy preparing for the 'Decorate the Classroom Door' contest, where they had to decorate their classroom door to look like the cover of the book they had chosen. The children had much fun stretching their creative and artistic talent in order to come up with the best design and decoration!

In line with the School's 'think green' approach, various recycled materials were also used in decorating the doors. In Year 5, the books represented were as follows:

1. Journey to the Center of the Earth by Jules Verne (5T)

2. Hansel & Gretel by the Brothers Grimm (5E)

3. Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling (5N)

4. Paranorman by Elizabeth Cody Kimmel (5B)

5. Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan (5Y)
